Wednesday, October 9th, 7:15 p.m.
Day one of TOC 2002 is in the books. Scores for the freestyle, and totals for the day, will be distributed tomorrow morning. We'll post them as soon as we have them.
The freestyles were a mix of Wednesday-conservative with a few glimses of what some are planning for later when it begins to really count. Bill Hempel released a "USA" banner at the end of his flight and Christophe repeated the same free he won with in 2000, complete with wing-tip streamers. The only real trouble of the round was with Kirk Gray's free... while completing a rolling harrier at the west end of the field, he flew behind the crowd line. While the plane was still well west of the pits and spectators, flying behind the dead-line is a safety violation so the flight was stopped and Kirk earned a zero for the round.
We'll have photos and the beginnings of the pilot/aircraft info later tonight.
Wednesday, October 9th, 4:15 p.m.
The second round, Known #1, is completed and the freestyle is in progress. The Known was completed by all without incident. Results are below.
Wednesday, October 9th, 1:30 p.m.
The first round, Unknown #1, is complete. Overall, most flew well but for some first-round jitters. Poyet and Von Linsowe both suffered deadsticks early in their sequences.
The second round, Known #1, is underway now. Our first look at the freestyles will wrap up the day later this afternoon.
More later...
