The WIND is back! The Vegas winds made their presence known at the end of Round 2, the Unknowns. LeRoux, Poyet, Beschorner, Szczur and Silvestri all had to battle a fierce crosswind that had the flags snapping and parking lot dust clouding the air. Their scores appear to be down somewhat as a result.
The wind calmed a bit for the unknowns but still made things interesting for all. We didn't see too many on-the-deck torquerolls. Chris Lakin experienced a dead stick near the end of his free. Best guess is his smoke fluid flooded the engine during a vertical descent. It happened late enough in his program that there may not have been a time penalty for touching down early.
Roland Matt has switched to his backup plane, another 3W Extra 330, after the engine failure during Round 1.
Scores and results for the day appear below. Wednesday's Round 2 scores (on the Wednesday page) have been corrected after the re-normalizing.
Thursday, October 10th, 12:50 p.m.
The first round, Known #2, is complete. Roland Matt suffered a dead stick early in his sequence. The cause was a found to be a broken crank case.
The scores for the first round yesterday were re-normalized to a higher value. Because the normalized scores are translated to a percentage of the round-winner's score, this changes only the score value itself, not the resulting placement. The totals shown on Wednesday's results are correct. The Known round scores will be corrected tonight.
Thursday, October 10th, 10:15 a.m.
The first round, Unknown #2, is underway now.
